Gerald runs the YouTube channel DjangoAddict where he teaches programming and web development in his spare time. He is the webmaster and computer instructor for the project and will be in charge of distributing and instructing computer recipients on how to use their new computer!
MJ is the owner of Dear Isabella Larimar Jewelry located in La Estancia Plaza in La Romana. All computers can be dropped off at the location and will be collected there to be distributed to families in need.
This project was inspired by
Vin Diesel
whom posted a video about an orphanage in La Romana, calling on people to take action and make a difference.
After seeing the video and having spent a lot of time in La Romana over the last couple years, Gerald and Markely were spurred into action.
Having witnessed firsthand some of the miseries on the paradise island, they understand there is more to the island than just luxury resorts.
The Dominican Republic is known for it's white sands and gorgeous beaches.
And although the island is a paradise, outside of the resorts there are plenty of people struggling to just get by.
If you visit one of the barrios as we have, you may witness things like classrooms without paper
but rather cardboard sheets ripped from boxes for students to take notes.
Or in some cases, just not enough classroom spaces for the children.
We have made personal donations to help build classrooms for children in La Romana and purchase school supplies but there is more that can be done.
With the digital age upon us, the decision to work on this project was decided as one which would be most impactful
for children as they face the challenges ahead.
